At Fuelsource, we are aware of the impact fossil fuels have on the environment. This is why we are dedicated to offering green alternatives for your business or project. We offer two cleaner fuel alternatives, HVO and carbon offset diesel, both with benefits that go towards creating a greener future.

Fossil fuels

It’s important to understand what fossil fuels are and what they do to our environment. Acknowledging their impact is crucial to the journey towards doing better for the planet.

What are fossil fuels?

Put simply, fossil fuels are made of decomposed buried carbon-based organisms that died millions of years ago. The deposits left behind are rich in carbon, which is why they are burned for energy. Around 80% of the world is powered by fossil fuels, which come in coal, oil and gas forms, but they are non-renewable, meaning that, at some point, they will run out.

How do fossil fuels impact the environment?

Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas, and it is released when fossil fuels are burned. Greenhouse gases trap hot air in our atmosphere, which is what causes global warming. The more the atmosphere warms up, the more danger our planet is in.

The impacts that fossil fuels have on our environment include:

  • Extreme weather.
  • Rising sea levels.
  • Water pollution.
  • Air pollution.
  • Plastic pollution.
  • Serious health issues.
  • Oil spills.
  • Extinct species.

What green alternative fuels does Fuelsource offer?

Eventually, parts of the earth will be uninhabitable unless we use green alternatives to fossil fuels. We at Fuelsource offer two alternative fuels, both created to keep your business running while reducing your carbon footprint.

HVO fuel (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil)

This fuel type is made of vegetable oils or animal fats, is completely synthetic, and offers a reduction of up to 90% of net CO2 emissions. It is a second-generation renewable alternative to gas oil, also known as red diesel, and suitable for use in many machinery types. It’s predominantly used in the marine, rail, agriculture and horticulture industries and is a reliable year-round fuel choice.

It has a great number of other benefits over using fossil fuels, including conforming to EN 15940. This is a specification affecting paraffinic diesel fuels that governs a new generation of cleaner fuel used in road vehicles. This fuel type is a fantastic alternative choice to red diesel, helping you reduce your carbon footprint and do good for the planet.

Carbon offset diesel

While this fuel is diesel, it comes from suppliers who are dedicated to net zero emissions. The suppliers do this through a range of environmental initiatives to reduce CO2 worldwide through reforestation, renewable energy investment, and carbon capture.

By using carbon offset diesel in place of your regular diesel, you’ll be using suppliers that are actively working to counteract the carbon released by using the fuel.
